Matthew is currently completing the final year of his Master of Theology at the University of Divinity, with plans to pursue doctoral research (PhD) following his graduation. Of particular significance to his theological development has been the doctrine of theosis, or divinisation: the mystery of the human person's transformation through grace and participation in the divine life. Drawing inspiration from the biblical Psalms, ancient Christian hymnody and a diverse range of musical traditions, Cinder & Chalice seeks to unite theological substance with the expressive power of poetry, melody and contemporary musical production. Its compositions range from contemplative reflections on the spiritual life to energetic celebrations of faith, offering music intended not merely for entertainment, but also for prayer, encouragement and reflection.

Underlying Matthew's academic, literary and creative pursuits is a conviction that theology must ultimately remain directed towards the knowledge and love of God.
