Cinder & Chalice
Introducing Cinder & Chalice
Music shaped by faith, Scripture and the mystery of redemption
Cinder & Chalice is a Catholic music apostolate born from a desire to give the truths of faith a voice through lyrics, melody and song. Its name expresses the spiritual movement at the heart of the music: from the cinders of sin, suffering and human frailty to the chalice of surrender, sacrifice and transforming grace. It is the movement from ash to altar, from the ruins we carry within us to the life that Christ alone can redeem.
The music embraces the full range of the Christian life. Some songs enter the depths of sin, suffering, lamentation and the longing for mercy; others rise in worship, thanksgiving and joy. There are quiet songs of prayer and repentance, songs born from spiritual struggle, and vibrant, uplifting tracks that celebrate the goodness, faithfulness and victory of God. Together, they reflect the breadth of Sacred Scripture itself, where lament and praise, sorrow and rejoicing, repentance and hope all become part of humanity’s response to God.
The sound of Cinder & Chalice is equally varied. Southern blues and gospel meet the musical colours of the Mediterranean, with Levantine, Greek and Latin influences giving the project a character that can be weathered and soulful in one song, prayerful and contemplative in another, and rhythmic, energetic and celebratory in the next.
Across this musical diversity, the foundation remains constant. Every song is written from within the world of Sacred Scripture and Catholic theology, carrying the truths of faith into music that can be heard, remembered, sung and brought into prayer. Cinder & Chalice seeks to create music for the whole journey of faith: for the soul that laments, the sinner who returns, the heart that worships and the believer who rejoices in the mercy and glory of God.
From the Psalms of David to the hymns and chants of the Church, the people of God have always carried their faith through song. Cinder & Chalice continues within that inheritance, creating biblically and theologically grounded music for prayer, struggle, conversion, celebration and worship, so that even the ashes of human life may be gathered, offered and transformed in Christ.
From Ash to Altar
From Ash to Altar is the debut album from Cinder & Chalice. Its title expresses the movement at the heart of the Christian life: from the ashes left by sin, suffering and human weakness to the altar where the whole of life is offered to God and transformed by the grace of Jesus Christ.
The album moves across the full spiritual and emotional range of faith. Some songs give voice to repentance, repeated failure, lamentation, divine silence and the longing for mercy; others rise into gratitude, joyful worship and confident praise. That variety is carried through a sound that moves from southern blues and gospel to Mediterranean, Levantine, Greek and Latin influences, allowing the music to be contemplative and soulful in one moment, then rhythmic, vibrant and uplifting in the next. Throughout it all, the lyrics remain deeply rooted in Sacred Scripture and Catholic theology.
From Ash to Altar is music for those who have struggled, fallen, searched, returned, worshipped and discovered that the mercy of God reaches into every part of human life. The album invites the listener to bring everything before Christ—the wounds and joys, failures and hopes—and allow even the ashes to become an offering of surrender, praise and new life.
